<p>Lastly, we have an online store for those interested in Haunted Montreal merchandise. More details are below in our Company News section!</p>

<p>This month we follow up with a man named Jeff in Côte-Saint-Luc. Since 2009, Jeff has been experiencing poltergeist activity in his apartment and recently the paranormal happenings have only gotten stronger. From the kitchen faucet turning on by itself to rotating dish racks and drawers opening and closing, Jeff’s apartment is a paranormal dystopia. To make matters worse, the spirit is now following him outside and is getting more aggressive.</p>

<h2 class="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading"><strong>Haunted Research</strong></h2>

<p>Montreal is a city with a lot of recorded poltergeist activity. From the <a href="https://hauntedmontreal.com/haunted-montreal-blog-17-poltergeist-on_13.html" data-type="URL" data-id="https://hauntedmontreal.com/haunted-montreal-blog-17-poltergeist-on_13.html">knot-tying poltergeist of Sainte-Famille Street</a> to the rug-throwing spirit described by Sherlock Holmes author <a href="https://hauntedmontreal.com/haunted-montreal-blog-87-sir-arthur-conan-doyle-in-montreal.html" data-type="URL" data-id="https://hauntedmontreal.com/haunted-montreal-blog-87-sir-arthur-conan-doyle-in-montreal.html">Sir Arthur Conan Doyle</a>, Montreal has more than a few of these paranormal creatures.</p>

<p>This month, Haunted Montreal follows up with a man named Jeff in Côte-Saint-Luc regarding his own ongoing poltergeist experience. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/CSL.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14274" width="787" height="614" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/CSL.jpg 823w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/CSL-300x234.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/CSL-768x599.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 787px) 100vw, 787px" /></figure>

<p>Jeff had originally contacted Haunted Montreal in the summer of 2021 to explain his unusual situation.</p>

<p>After investigating, Haunted Montreal published <a href="https://hauntedmontreal.com/haunted-montreal-blog-72-the-poltergeist-of-cote-saint-luc.html">The Poltergeist of Côte-Saint-Luc</a> in August of that year. Since then, Jeff has been sending updates on all of the poltergeist activity in his apartment – and now outdoors – and this blog reveals his latest paranormal encounters.</p>

<p>Jeff wrote: “Since my last report of mysterious poltergeist activity over a year ago, there have been many more mysterious poltergeist events taking place in my apartment.”</p>

<p>One of the most common phenomena is objects rotating themselves 90 degrees, including cereal boxes, sponges, a dishrack and a chair. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/chair.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14280" width="702" height="527" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/chair.jpg 640w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/chair-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px" /></figure>

<p>Jeff is constantly baffled by these paranormal movements and has no idea which object will rotate next.</p>

<p>In another case, Jeff was about to take a shower one day. He glanced up at the rubber bath mat hanging from the shower curtain rod, which was folded over it. He thought to himself that he would put it on the floor of the bathtub after returning from putting something away in his room.</p>

<p>About thirty seconds later, when he returned, he saw that the rubber bath mat was now on the floor of the bathtub, where he had originally wanted it. Furthermore, Jeff did not hear a sound made by the movement of the bath mat from the curtain rod to the floor of the bathtub.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/bath-mat.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14293" width="780" height="585" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/bath-mat.jpg 640w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/bath-mat-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" /></figure>

<p>Another time, Jeff put a cereal bowl in the kitchen sink to be cleaned. However, immediately after placing the bowl in the sink, the single-handled faucet turned on by itself! The water coming out was in a thin stream, and Jeff pushed the handle down to shut the water off. According to Jeff: “The faucet had been turned off completely, and there&#8217;s no way it could have turned on by itself. Yet, it did.”</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Faucet.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14285" width="642" height="583" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Faucet.jpg 360w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Faucet-300x273.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px" /></figure>

<p>Then one night, something weird happened. His freezer contained a package of matzo balls and another of potato kugel. Jeff explained that each package was very different. The previous night, he took out the potato kugel from the freezer, and put it in the fridge to defrost for the meal of the day.</p>

<p>However, the following morning, when he looked in the fridge he saw that the potato kugel package had been replaced by the matzo ball package. Jeff described this as a “double teleportation.”</p>

<p>In another food-related event, one day Jeff went shopping for a jar of plum sauce. After reading the label, he decided to purchase it. When Jeff got home to unpack, he was shocked to see that the plum sauce he had just bought was now a jar of General Tao sauce. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sauce.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14270" width="662" height="595" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sauce.jpg 486w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sauce-300x270.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 662px) 100vw, 662px" /></figure>

<p>Jeff speculated that the situation was likely a “poltergeist practical joke.”</p>

<p>It seems the paranormal humour continued when a porcelain sugar pot teleported into the fridge just as Jeff was preparing a bowl of strawberries that he planned to dust with the sugar.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sugar-bowl.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14272" width="696" height="522" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sugar-bowl.jpg 640w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sugar-bowl-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></figure>

<p>The trickery also affected Jeff’s wall calendar. On March 1st, he flipped up the calendar page to March. However, the next morning, he saw the April page.</p>

<p>Jeff said: “I didn&#8217;t do it. In a nutshell, an additional calendar page had been flipped over during the night, and not by me, revealing the incorrect month of April page.” Could this have been a paranormal April Fool’s Day prank?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar-1024x624.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14304" width="773" height="470" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar-1024x624.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar-300x183.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar-768x468.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar-1536x936.jpg 1536w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/calendar.jpg 2037w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px" /></figure>

<p>Following this episode, things started becoming more and more strange.</p>

<p>According to Jeff:</p>

<p>“One night, while my mother was lying in bed, she called out to me. When I came, she said that somebody was patting her head, and that it was a ghost (her word). I told her that she was dreaming, but she was insistent about it. She is very old and forgetful, but her head is still working well and she has a firm grasp on reality.”</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hair-1.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-14301" width="785" height="458" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hair-1.jpeg 930w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hair-1-300x175.jpeg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hair-1-768x448.jpeg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px" /></figure>

<p>With the poltergeist now getting physical, Jeff soon experienced an accident that he blamed on it.</p>

<p>On August 17, 2022, Jeff went for his dental check-up. While at the dentist, X-rays were made of his teeth. Jeff said:</p>

<p>&#8220;Strangely, instead of showing the interior of my teeth as X-rays do, the X-ray machine showed my teeth as completely white, as if something was blocking the X-rays from penetrating the tooth. The dentist said that this was the first time ever that the X-ray machine had behave like that. This leads me to believe that the poltergeist which had been in my life for a couple of years had sabotaged the X-ray procedure, and had prevented the machine from working properly.&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/teeth.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14296" width="716" height="537" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/teeth.jpg 640w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/teeth-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 716px) 100vw, 716px" /></figure>

<p>As he left the dentist&#8217;s office after the check-up, Jeff went for a brief walk nearby while waiting for the bus. He wrote:</p>

<p>“As I stepped off the curb in the middle of the block of a quiet street, I toppled over and fell on my face, resulting&nbsp;in scratches and bleeding, and also hurt my hand, wrist and arm while trying to break the fall. I&#8217;m thinking that my bad fall might not have been so innocent.”</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="761" height="625" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/scrapes.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14266" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/scrapes.jpg 761w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/scrapes-300x246.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 761px) 100vw, 761px" /></figure>

<p>Jeff added:</p>

<p>“Stepping off a low curb, even while not watching my step carefully, should not have resulted in a fall, yet I tumbled forward and down forcefully. It was almost as if I were pulled by a force acting horizontally on my upper body, pulling me forward. But there was insufficient forward momentum to cause me to fall forward like that.”</p>

<p>Jeff considers this a poltergeist event, or more accurately, a “poltergeist attack”; a supernatural push causing him to fall. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hand.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14310" width="781" height="562" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hand.jpg 881w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hand-300x216.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/hand-768x553.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 781px) 100vw, 781px" /></figure>

<p>He feels threatened now.</p>

<p>He wrote: “I was actually injured and had to go to emergency, with X-rays showing bone fractures in my elbow joint, persistent aching, and reduced range of motion in my arm. To me, this is serious; a supernatural entity capable of doing something resulting in injury (and potentially death) is a serious threat for which there is no defence. It suggests that humanity is vulnerable to attack by supernatural forces.”</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/a-paper.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14307" width="719" height="989" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/a-paper.jpg 325w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/a-paper-218x300.jpg 218w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px" /></figure>

<p>Upon reflection, Jeff concluded:</p>

<p>“These poltergeist phenomena have forced me to consider what kind of universe we live in that would permit these supposedly impossible events to happen. Indeed, I am compelled to doubt the existence of a material universe altogether, since physical objects as we think of them should not be able to behave in this way. In my opinion, these poltergeist phenomena could only occur in a purely mental universe, where only mind exists and where thought is the basis of reality; a dream, if you will.”</p>

<p>Haunted Montreal awaits more reports of poltergeist activity and will keep our readers updated!</p>

<p><strong>Coming up on January 13:</strong> Place Viger</p>

<p>Once an opulent Chateau-style hotel and railway station, the Place Viger is undergoing major redevelopments. Situated in eastern Old Montreal, this architectural gem is reputed to be haunted by the spirits of bawling children. In 2011, one visitor wrote, “I felt a very strong negative energy about the place. I immediately knew it was haunted. I heard children crying for their mothers and the sadness engulfed me.” Just who or what is haunting the Place Viger is a question of speculation, but one theory refers to a major gas explosion at the one of the hotel’s rail quays in 1909 as the culprit of the paranormal activity.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Place-Viger.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-14263" width="764" height="494" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Place-Viger.jpg 858w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Place-Viger-300x194.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Place-Viger-768x498.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px" /></figure>

<p>Welcome to the sixty-second installment of the Haunted Montreal Blog!</p>

<p>With over 400 documented ghost stories, Montreal is easily the most haunted city in Canada, if not all of North America. Haunted Montreal dedicates itself to researching these paranormal tales, and the Haunted Montreal Blog unveils a newly researched Montreal ghost story on the 13th of every month! This service is free and you can sign up to our mailing list (top, right-hand corner for desktops and at the bottom for mobile devices) if you wish to receive it every month on the 13th!</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/logo.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-7425" width="507" height="506" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/logo.jpg 959w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/logo-150x150.jpg 150w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/logo-300x300.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/logo-768x767.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px" /></figure></div>

<p>For our October blog, we examine Montreal’s Contemporary Ghost-hunters. Montreal has many different groups that seek out local ghosts, unexplainable mysteries and paranormal occurrences. From psychics and mediums to ghost-hunters equipped with tools such as EMF readers, spirit boxes, and temperature guns, there are several remarkable organizations devoted to exploring Montreal’s endless paranormal activity.</p>

<h2 class="has-text-align-center wp-block-heading"><strong>Haunted Research</strong></h2>

<p>Montreal’s contemporary ghost-hunting groups have multiplied over the years and today there are many of them. At last count, Quebec is home to a staggering 532 paranormal groups, along with thousands of individuals who seek out ghosts and the paranormal on a regular basis.</p>

<p>Ghost-hunting has never been more popular! This is likely due to an increase in Paranormal Investigation-style television programs that have emerged over the years like <em>Rencontres Paranormales</em>, Most Haunted, TAPS’ Ghost Hunters and World’s Scariest Hauntings.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Rencontres-Paranormales.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10955" width="498" height="189" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Rencontres-Paranormales.jpg 828w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Rencontres-Paranormales-300x114.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Rencontres-Paranormales-768x292.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px" /></figure></div>

<p>In the Montreal region, some ghost-hunting organizations include <em>APPA Paranormal</em>, <em>R.I.P. Estrie</em>, <em>S.E.P. Paranormal</em>, <em>Enquête de l&#8217;obscurite du paranormal</em>, <em>Enquête Montreal</em>, The Montreal Ghost Tracking Group, Montreal Paranormal Investigations and 13 Spirits Paranormal.</p>

<p>This month we interview Dominique Desormeaux, founder of of 13 Spirits Paranormal.</p>

<p>Dominique also hosts Haunted Montreal’s monthly <em><a href="https://hauntedmontreal.com/paranormal-investigation-old-sainte-antoine-cemetery" data-type="URL" data-id="https://hauntedmontreal.com/paranormal-investigation-old-sainte-antoine-cemetery">Paranormal Investigation: Old Sainte Antoine Cemetery</a></em> as well as leading ghost tours.</p>

<p>He is considered one of Quebec’s foremost experts on all things paranormal.</p>

<p><strong>HM: Can you tell us briefly, what a paranormal investigation is?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom:</strong> In a paranormal investigation, the goal is to try to capture some proof that ghosts exist and to find the keys that will help us understand the nature of any given haunting phenomena. The paranormal investigation deals with a broader range of topics from ghosts to psychic phenomena; from out-of-body experiences to near-death experiences; from Bigfoot to little green men &#8211; and everything in-between. We build up files, do research on the history and demystify.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-876x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10964" width="438" height="511" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-876x1024.jpg 876w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-257x300.jpg 257w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-768x898.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-1314x1536.jpg 1314w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-1752x2048.jpg 1752w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>HM: How long have you been carrying out paranormal investigations?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: I have been in the domain now for the past 22 years. I started my first paranormal group call D.P.S. (Dom Paranormal Society), then left for a short time and came back with another group call APPA Paranormal for 4 and a half years. In 2014, I created the group that I have now: 13 Spirits Paranormal.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10967" width="514" height="385" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-2-2048x1536.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>HM: When did you first become interested in the paranormal?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: As far that I can remember, at the age of three my interest began in the paranormal.</p>

<p><strong>HM: What drove you to become a professional ghost-hunter?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: When I was young, I would see a black shadow at the end of my bed every night that got me asking questions trying to find out what was happening. Later, at the age of ten, another big event pushed me, even more, to try to understand. After that, the age of 12, I met a real ghost from my past. These bizarre events pushed me to do paranormal research, from reading books to watching videos and TV shows.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-659x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10971" width="447" height="695" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-659x1024.jpg 659w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-193x300.jpg 193w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-768x1193.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-989x1536.jpg 989w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book-1318x2048.jpg 1318w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ghost-Hunting-Book.jpg 1593w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 447px) 100vw, 447px" /></figure></div>

<p>In 1999, I decided it was time to find more answers and so I started my team.</p>

<p><strong>HM: Tell us about 13 Spirits Paranormal.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: The &#8220;13 Paranormal Spirits&#8221; is a team of experienced investigators in paranormal phenomena. We are based in Blainville, in the Laurentians. We travel all over Quebec, Canada, and U.S.A. to help people who need help with paranormal phenomena they are experiencing. We help them understand these situations, both in private and historical places. All of our services are free. For more information, contact us by email at <a href="mailto:13spiritsparanormal@gmail.com">13spiritsparanormal@gmail.com</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10973" width="464" height="348" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-300x225.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-768x576.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dominique-Desormeaux-4-2048x1536.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>HM: What types of tools do you use during an investigation? Can you briefly describe them and how to operate them?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: First off, a digital voice recorder to conduct EVP sessions. That stands for “electronic voice phenomena,” but can encompass any mysterious sounds or voices from spirits in the vicinity. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Digital-Recorder.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10993" width="486" height="423" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Digital-Recorder.jpg 614w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Digital-Recorder-300x261.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px" /></figure></div>

<p>These hand-held, battery-operated devices are an essential tool for any paranormal investigator</p>

<p>Secondly, a digital camera/ video camera with a night vision function is a must-have. They’re essential for capturing everything from unexplained light anomalies and shadow figures to mysterious creaks, thuds, and footsteps.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Donovan-King-Paranormal-Activity.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10969" width="482" height="632" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Donovan-King-Paranormal-Activity.jpg 633w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Donovan-King-Paranormal-Activity-229x300.jpg 229w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px" /></figure></div>

<p>Thirdly, we use K-II ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD (EMF) DETECTORS. EMF readers locate sources of electromagnetic radiation. Ghosts are thought to emit EM radiation or disturb the existing magnetic fields in a room.</p>

<p>K2 meters are primarily used to debunk spectral sources of EM radiation, but can also be a tool to communicate with ghosts. We’ve had cases where people are sleeping right next to an old alarm clock, or they don’t realize that their fuse box is right below them and could be giving off huge electromagnetic fields. That can cause hallucinations or the feeling of being watched. We move the alarm clock for a week, call us back and let us know. In most cases, they always say it stops. On the other hand, an anomalous EM field in the middle of a room with no obvious source merits further investigation.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/K2-Readers.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10975" width="471" height="235" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/K2-Readers.jpg 750w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/K2-Readers-300x150.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 471px) 100vw, 471px" /></figure></div>

<p>The next tool is an INFRARED THERMOMETER. A regular thermometer can measure the ambient temperature in a given environment. An infrared thermometer can take the temperature of a specific object with a laser. They’re handy for detecting cold spots in a potentially haunted area, which ghost investigators say can be signs of otherwise invisible entities. Before an investigation begins, we use an infrared thermometer to identify drafts around windows or air conditioning vents as well as for measuring thermal radiation during the session. They must be held 14 inches in front of the object to measured.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Infrared-Thermometer.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10978" width="470" height="542" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Infrared-Thermometer.jpg 605w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Infrared-Thermometer-260x300.jpg 260w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px" /></figure></div>

<p>PORTABLE HOME SECURITY is a must for any serious paranormal investigator. It uses motion sensors or vibration detectors to pick up movement in empty rooms. A basic portable home security system, with a couple of sensors and a receiver, is an inexpensive option. Just place the sensor on a table or shelf in an unoccupied room and carry the receiver with you. The receiver will emit an alarm or chime when motion is detected in the empty location, and you can then send in the unluckiest member of your ghost-hunting crew to check it out. Geophone Vibration Sensors (sometimes called Geophones) work in a similar way. They can be set on the floor to detect phantom footsteps or other unexplained movements and will light up when anomalies are sensed.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Portable-Home-Security.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10985" width="437" height="416" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Portable-Home-Security.jpg 509w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Portable-Home-Security-300x286.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 437px) 100vw, 437px" /></figure></div>

<p>Next are BINARY RESPONSE DEVICES. Binary response devices, or “yes/no boxes,” are another important tool. Investigators can ask suspected spirits simple questions and allegedly receive answers through the device &#8211; the theory being that spirits can harness the energy in the machine and use it to respond. Different replies are indicated with lights on either side of the gadget: Yes/No questions (green for yes, red for no) and to obtain answers to slightly more complex inquiries, such as “which corner of the room are you in?” (red for left, green for right).</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Yes-No-Box-1024x671.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10991" width="489" height="320" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Yes-No-Box-1024x671.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Yes-No-Box-300x197.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Yes-No-Box-768x503.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Yes-No-Box.jpg 1500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px" /></figure></div>

<p>Another great tool is the P-SB7 / sb11 GHOST BOX. There are numerous models on the market, from the popular P-SB7 Spirit Box (and the more advanced P-SB11) designed by Gary Galka of DAS. A ghost box is a catch-all term for a device used to verbally communicate with spirits. Many of these gadgets continually scan radio frequencies, creating a din of white noise. “The idea is the spirit can use that white noise to communicate in some way, either verbally or through EVP sessions. An investigator can simply listen for disembodied voices, or ask questions into the void and hope for an answer from beyond.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX-1024x1011.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10983" width="486" height="480" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX-1024x1011.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX-300x296.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX-768x758.jpg 768w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX-45x45.jpg 45w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P-SB7-sb11-GHOST-BOX.jpg 1280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px" /></figure></div>

<p>Lastly, a Kinect SLS Camera with video takes ghost hunting with video to a new level. It works in absolute darkness (as well as full light). It detects spirit forms during paranormal investigations that can&#8217;t be seen with the naked eye. The Kinect SLS Camera has an infrared light projector with a monochrome CMOS sensor that shows everything as dots arranged in 3D formation. These infrared dots allow the camera to show depth and detail. The software “sees” people by recognizing joints and movements. The IR will detect paranormal entities that the program recognizes as a human shape based on the body parts and joints. Video can be recorded directly onto an SD card and then be uploaded to a device.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="491" height="416" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Kinetic-SLS-Camera.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10980" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Kinetic-SLS-Camera.jpg 491w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Kinetic-SLS-Camera-300x254.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>HM: What is the freakiest thing you have ever detected?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: Getting my mother, who passed away, to call out my name in a location where she had never set foot.</p>

<p>I was in Quebec City doing a paranormal investigation and during this time did an EVP session. Out of nowhere, my mother called my name! I was not sure until I got home and reviewed the material. That’s when I realized it was my mother calling my name! She passed away in 2009 and the investigation was in 2013! What was funny is that my mother had never ever set foot in Quebec City!</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/québec-city-canada.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10997" width="491" height="327" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/québec-city-canada.jpg 1024w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/québec-city-canada-300x200.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/québec-city-canada-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong>HM: What advice do you have for someone who wants to learn more about ghost-hunting?</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dom</strong>: Learn what you are about to do. Read, read and inform yourself. Join us on a Haunted Montreal paranormal investigation or seek out other paranormal groups. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dowsing-Rods.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10988" width="472" height="355" srcset="https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dowsing-Rods.jpg 863w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dowsing-Rods-300x226.jpg 300w, https://hauntedmontreal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dowsing-Rods-768x578.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px" /></figure></div>

<p>Learn your craft well before starting to do private home investigations. Respect the craft and be professional if you want to be taken seriously.</p>

<p><strong>Coming up on November 13:</strong> Jacques Cartier Suicide Bridge</p>

<p>With a long-standing reputation as the second most popular “suicide bridge” in the world, after the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Jacques Cartier Bridge is known to be both deadly and haunted. A steel truss cantilever bridge that crosses the Saint Lawrence River from the city to the south shore at Longueuil, it has a tragic history of both suicides and murders occurring on the span. Despite recent improvements, such as anti-suicide barriers, surveillance cameras and an expensive lighting scheme, there are still suicides every year. Tormented spirits are known to haunt the massive structure that crosses the mighty river.</p>
